Our most popular variety has returned, Buckwheat.

Buckwheat honey is a highly nutritious and uniquely flavored honey made from the nectar of buckwheat flowers. Buckwheat, despite its name, is not related to wheat but is actually a fruit seed that’s closely related to rhubarb and sorrel, making it a suitable substitute for grains for people who are sensitive to wheat or other grains that contain protein gluten.

This type of honey is distinctive for several reasons:

  1. Color and Consistency: Buckwheat honey is much darker than most other honey varieties, ranging from dark purple to black. Its thick consistency is closer to molasses than the light, fluid texture of traditional honeys.
  2. Flavor: The flavor of buckwheat honey is strong, robust, and earthy, with malty tones and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Its intense flavor makes it less likely to be used as a sweetener in teas or on toast but highly valued for use in baking, marinades, and other recipes where its bold taste can stand out or complement other flavors.

We harvest our honey and immediately return it to our commercial kitchen in Sassafras to spin, pour and pack. No heat treatment and only course filtered once means you experience Tasmania’s honey in its purest and finest form, Raw.
