RAW Leatherwood Honey 500G

A gourmet honey from Tasmania’s forests; strong flavour with a floral richness.

Leatherwood honey is a distinctive type of honey produced primarily in Tasmania, Australia. It’s made from the nectar of the Leatherwood tree (Eucryphia lucida), which is native to the state’s rainforest regions. Leatherwood honey is highly valued for its unique flavor, aromatic qualities, and its rarity, as it comes from a specific region.

The flavor of Leatherwood honey is quite distinctive and complex. It has a strong, aromatic and spicy flavor with floral notes, and some people detect a slightly bitter aftertaste. Its aroma is powerful and fragrant, often described as being akin to the scent of the Leatherwood flowers themselves. This makes it a favorite among connoisseurs and those looking for a honey that is different from the more common varieties.

In addition to its culinary uses, Leatherwood honey is also appreciated for its health benefits. Like many raw honeys, it contains antioxidants, antibacterial properties, and can be soothing for sore throats and digestive issues.

Leatherwood honey’s consistency is typically thick and creamy, and its color can range from a light gold to a deeper amber, depending on the batch and the time of harvest.

Due to its unique source, Leatherwood honey is also an important product for Tasmania, contributing to the state’s reputation for producing high-quality, distinctive food items. The Leatherwood trees grow in the wild, and their conservation is crucial not only for the production of this honey but also for maintaining the health of Tasmania’s rainforests.

We harvest our honey and immediately return it to our commercial kitchen to spin, pour and pack. No heat treatment and only one course filter meaning you experience Tasmania’s honey in its finest form, Raw.

All our varieties are collected from Tasmanian Wilderness  and rolling lands from Strahan to Smithton.
